At Your Service

The serve is the only shot a tennis player has complete control over. That provides little comfort for most of us. In fact, it brings an added pressure. Standing behind the baseline, all eyes upon us waiting to get the point started. That is the moment we either hope we don't double fault or we believe our serve is a weapon.

They key to developing a reliable serve isn't just practice, it is deliberate practice. I suggest in addition to any technical changes you are making, also make the following three disciplines part of your next practice session.

Practice Your Ritual

If you don't have a ritual develop one. It can be as simple as bouncing the ball a few times. Rituals help steady your mind, body and emotional state. It's your routine, rhythm and security blanket.

Develop a Tempo

Many of us miss our serve because we rush the first part of our motion throwing off our timing. Start your motion slowly and accelerate as you go to contact.

Serve with a Purpose

Practice all variations of your serve, depth, speed, spin and location.

Here are today's videos. While, we all want to serve like Serena in reality we are a little more like Chris. Enjoy!
